SMART Goals

-S.M.A.R.T is an acronym that stands for Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound. The framework is a systematic and simple guide to goal setting that ensures the goals are clear, focused, and practical

1) Specific: A specific goal clearly identifies what is expected, why it is important, who’s involved, where its going to happen, and which resources are involved in its achievement

2) Measurable: Goals should be measurable so that there is tangible evidence that you have accomplished the goal

3) Achievable: Goals should stretch you slightly so you feel challenged, but defined well enough that you can achieve them

4) Relevant Make sure that relevant goals answer yes to these questions: Does this seem worthwhile? Is this the right time? Does this match our other efforts and needs?

5) Time Bound Goals should be time-bound. This means that they have a start and finish date. When you are working on a deadline, your sense of urgency increases, and achievement will come that much quicker

Gibbs’ Reflective Cycle

Developed in 1988 by Graham Gibbs, the Reflective Cycle was developed to give structure to learning from experiences. It offers a framework for examining experiences, and given its cyclic nature lends itself particularly well to repeated experiences, allowing you to lean and plan from things that either went well or didn’t. It covers 6 stages:

-Description of the experience

-Feelings and thoughts about the experience

-Evaluation of the experience, both good and bad

-Analysis to make sense of the situation

-Conclusion about what you learned and what you could have done differently

-Action plan for how you would deal with similar situations in the future, or general changes you might find appropriate
